March is Red Cross Month
02/26/2010
Throughout the U.S., March is recognized as American Red Cross Month. As one of the nation’s best known humanitarian organizations, the Red Cross has been at the forefront of helping Americans prevent, prepare for, and respond to large and small emergencies for 130 years. Communities depend on the Red Cross in times of need, and the Red Cross depends on the support of the American people to achieve its mission.
As one of more than 700 Red Cross chapters across the country, our Monroe County chapter relies on everyday heroes to give their time and talents to help others through CPR, first aid, and AED training, to coordinate blood drives, or to make financial donations.
Although major disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, and wildfires capture national media headlines, the day-to-day work of the Red Cross often takes place in local communities. We are on call 24/7 to connect military families in crisis, help families whose homes are lost to fire, and provide lifesaving blood to those in need. Last year we trained over 7,400 individuals to save lives through skills training in CPR/AED, First Aid and water safety classes.
With March proclaimed as Red Cross Month, and on the heels of an important relief operation in Haiti, the Monroe County Chapter wants to recognize and thank the donors, supporters, and volunteers whose generous donations of time, blood and financial support enable the Red Cross to respond to emergencies down the street, across the country, and around the world.
Sincerely,
Sue Gulley, Executive Director
