American Red Cross Announces Local “Heroes”

Monroe County Chapter to Kickoff “Heroes for the American Red Cross” Fundraising Campaign

Bloomington, IN March 3, 2010 – For more than 92 years, the Monroe County Chapter of the American Red Cross has been a hero for thousands of people in our community, lending aid during times of disaster, seeing to the welfare of US military soldiers and their families and providing citizens with lifesaving CPR and first aid skills.  Now, IU Head Football Coach Bill Lynch, and his wife, Linda, have signed on to be co-chairs of the annual fund raising campaign. A native and lifelong Hoosier with 32 years coaching experience in the state, Bill Lynch is entering his fourth year at the helm of the Indiana football program. In his three seasons, the Hoosiers reached the postseason and won seven games in a season for the first time since 1993.

Says Coach Lynch, “Linda and I are honored to serve as co-chairs for the Heroes for the American Red Cross campaign. Now more than ever, in light of our humanitarian work in Haiti, Chile and around the world, Hoosiers can get involved to raise funds for the Red Cross. This campaign is about people helping people when they are experiencing the worst moments in their lives.”

Members of the Indiana University and surrounding Bloomington community are asked to step forward to be Heroes for the American Red Cross, each pledging to raise $1,000 or more to keep the vital services of the Red Cross alive in Monroe and Owen Counties.  This year, the Monroe County Chapter has set its sights on raising $75,000 during the March and April campaign.  The funds will be used to support Red Cross services in Monroe and Owen Counties. For more information, call the Red Cross at (812) 332-7292 or e-mail the Chapter’s Executive Director, Sue Gulley, at suegulley@monroe-redcross.org.
