Feel Good about Giving Back by Donating Blood

American Red Cross says the need for blood is constant

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (April 9, 2010) – Looking for a way to give back to your community, but don’t have a lot of time to volunteer? The American Red Cross reminds eligible individuals that in about an hour, you can help save a life by donating blood and the gratification you’ll feel when you donate is instant.

“Blood is a perishable product that can only come from generous volunteer blood donors,” said  Linda Voss, CEO of  the American Red Cross Blood Services River Valley region. “By donating blood, you can make a difference in the lives of patients in your community and throughout the nation.”

As Americans become increasingly mobile, you can feel good knowing that when you donate blood through the Red Cross you may be helping patients not only in your local community, but also your family and friends across the nation. The more you share, the more you get back. Give blood.

Upcoming Blood Donation Opportunities:

  • Monday, April 19, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Kappa Alpha Theta, 441 N. Woodlawn Ave., Bloomington, Ind.

About the American Red Cross

Governed by volunteers and supported by giving individuals and communities, the American Red Cross is the single largest supplier of blood products to hospitals throughout the United States. While local hospital needs are always met first, the Red Cross also helps ensure no patient goes without blood no matter where or when they need it. In addition to providing nearly half of the nation’s blood supply, the Red Cross provides relief to victims of disaster, trains millions in lifesaving skills, serves as a communication link between U.S. military members and their families, and assists victims of international disasters or conflicts.
