Duke Energy Contributes $80,000 to Indiana Flood Relief Efforts

PLAINFIELD, IND. - Duke Energy is contributing $80,000 to American Red Cross chapters in some of its communities that are hardest hit by flooding.

Monroe County Chapter of the American Red Cross, serving residents in Owen and Monroe Counties, was the recipient of $10,000 from Duke Energy for flood relief efforts in both counties. Pictured are Steve Bahr, from Duke Energy, and Sue Gulley, Executive Director of the Monroe County Chapter.

On Friday, the company’s Plainfield office will serve as collection site for American Red Cross relief funds. The public can make financial donations in front of Duke Energy’s offices on 1000 E. Main St. in Plainfield from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. In case of bad weather, donations will be collected in the front lobby.

All funds collected will go to the American Red Cross. Anyone making a donation will receive a free compact fluorescent light bulb.

“These are not only our customers, but in many cases they are our employees and neighbors devastated by flooding,” said Jim Stanley, president of Duke Energy Indiana. “Our thoughts are with all those who have endured tremendous loss because of this natural disaster. We know that this storm has produced terrible hardships and tremendous financial needs. We felt that a significant financial contribution to those on the front lines, the American Red Cross, was important.”

Duke Energy Indiana provides approximately 7,300 megawatts of safe, reliable and competitively priced electricity to more than 800,000 electric customers, making it the state’s largest electric supplier.

Duke Energy, one of the largest electric power companies in the United States, supplies and delivers electricity to approximately 4 million U.S. customers in its regulated jurisdictions. The company has approximately 35,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity in the Midwest and the Carolinas, and natural gas distribution services in Ohio and Kentucky. In addition, Duke Energy has more than 4,000 megawatts of electric generation in Latin America, and is a joint-venture partner in a U.S. real estate company.

Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., Duke Energy is a Fortune 500 company traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol DUK. More information about the company is available on the Internet at: www.duke-energy.com.
