Red Cross Distributing Flood Clean-Up Supplies
February 13, 2008, Indianapolis, IN - As more and more Indiana rivers are cresting, the American Red Cross is working to make sure that residents affected by flooding throughout the state have the clean-up supplies that they need.
Red Cross workers and volunteers have been distributing Clean-up Kits around the state. Clean-up Kits include such items as mops, buckets, squeegees, bleach, etc. Bulk Distribution items are also being made available to people who need them. Examples of these items include bleach, rakes, buckets, trash bags, gloves, tarps, masks and water.
Where the water has receded, Red Cross workers and volunteers are out in the affected areas, going house to house, passing out these supplies in person or from one of our Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs). Red Cross chapters throughout Indiana are also setting up Bulk Distribution Sites where affected residents can come in and pick up supplies.
The Greater Indianapolis Red Cross, which is overseeing the statewide Red Cross flooding response, has also sent out three vehicles so far in this disaster to deliver clean-up supplies to chapters with anticipated needs. Supplies were delivered to Crawfordsville, Monticello, Princeton, South Bend, Terre Haute and Winamac.
The Red Cross continues to monitor the conditions throughout the state and stands ready to assist affected residents.
People in need of flood clean-up supplies should contact their local Red Cross chapter.
