Monroe County Chapter’s first-ever Heroes campaign was launched in Bloomington, Indiana, in March 2007 with a great breakfast at our local MCL Cafeteria. Each hero received an American Red Cross labeled "padfolio" toolkit with all the Heroes materials they needed to either get started or to reach out to recruit additional heroes. When the campaign celebration was held a month later, our Campaign Chair, Mr. Lynn Coyne, former chapter chair and lifetime member, announced we had obtained $31,000 in pledges for our first Heroes campaign.

Our keynote speaker was Vera Jones, assistant coach of the Indiana University Women’s Basketball team. Special awards and souvenirs were presented to thirty heroes who were individuals, clubs, businesses and students. Outstanding leadership awards were given to campaign chair, Lynn Coyne, and chapter board members Jeremiah Young and Marcus Debro.

Chapter executive Sue Gulley stated, "As my Financial Development Chairperson said, 'It's a whole lot easier than Golf!' and we raised twice as much critically needed funds for our disaster relief and emergency preparedness services in Monroe and Owen Counties."
