July 11, 2008 - American Red Cross Thanks all Those who Helped During Flooding Disaster
The Monroe County Chapter of the American Red Cross sends its most heartfelt thanks to all the individuals, organizations, and businesses who came to the aid of their fellow Hoosiers during the recent floods in our area.

July 18, 2008 - Saving a Life is as easy as A-E-D
Statistics show that more than 200,000 Americans die of sudden cardiac arrest every year. Up to 50,000 of these deaths could have been prevented if someone had initiated the Cardiac Chain of Survival, and an automated external defibrillator (AED) had been available for immediate use at the time of the emergency.

July 11, 2008 - Duke Energy Contributes $80,000 to Indiana Flood Relief Efforts
Duke Energy is contributing $80,000 to American Red Cross chapters in some of its communities that are hardest hit by flooding.

July 11, 2008 - Donald Moore of American Red Cross Receives Philips Lifeline Award
Donald Moore, Lifeline Director at the Monroe County American Red Cross, was recently recognized by Philips Lifeline at their headquarters in Framingham, Massachusetts, as a valuable member of the Philips Lifeline Academy.

June 17, 2008 - American Red Cross Disaster Response Update - June 17, 2008
Red Cross volunteers continue to provide emergency assistance to families affected by flooding in central and southern Indiana. People needing Red Cross disaster assistance should call 1-866-GET-INFO to receive Red Cross shelter and service center locations, and other vital information.

June 11, 2008 - Red Cross Service Delivery Sites Open in Four Affected Counties - Facilities Schedules to be Open 12 Hours a Day to Provide Assistance
Five American Red Cross Service Delivery sites were opened today in four Indiana counties. The facilities will be staffed by trained Red Cross disaster caseworkers, who will meet one-on-one with people affected by the recent flooding to verify their disaster caused needs, help them develop recovery plans, provide Red Cross emergency assistance and refer them to other available assistance

Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, and health and mental health services to address basic human needs.

June 8, 2008 - American Redcross Activates Its 1-866-GET-INFO Hotline
As disaster volunteers continue to assist Hoosiers who have been forced from their homes because of severe flooding, the American Red Cross has activated its 1-866-GET –INFO hotline, which connects callers to a Red Cross response center where volunteers provide information including shelter locations and other vital information.

May 27, 2008 - National CPR and AED Awareness Week June 1-7
In December of 2007, Congress declared the first week of June each year as National CPR/AED Awareness Week. June 1-7, 2008 will mark the first National CPR and AED Awareness Week with the goal of encourage states, cities and towns to establish organized programs that provide CPR and AED trainings and increase public access to AEDs.

As tropical storms continue to batter the affected area of the Irrawaddy delta, survivors of Cyclone Nargis are vulnerable to diseases and other severe problems. Many survivors still need assistance, as exposure to the foul weather and malnutrition are creating an increasingly dire situation.

May 15, 2008 - The American Red Cross Commits $10 Million to Assist China Earthquake Survivors
The American Red Cross is prepared to provide $10 million to support relief efforts following the devastating 7.9 magnitude earthquake in China’s Sichuan province.

April 21, 2008 - 2008 Annual Heroes Campaign Report
This year over $70,000 was obtained in pledges during the Monroe County Chapter's 2nd annual Heroes Campaign.

Since 1976, February has been declared Black History Month. The American Red Cross commemorates this month by recognizing African Americans’ contributions to the organization since its founding in 1881.

November 7, 2007 - Lifeguard Receives National Award from American Red Cross
Lifeguard Leah Lattimer receives the Lifesaving Award for the Professional Responder after saving the life of a child.
